Adam Silvera

Branding / Identity Design

New York Times bestselling author Adam Silvera was looking for a visual identity that was minimalistic yet versatile—something that could serve him in both the speculative fiction and fantasy genres, as well as in any genres he decided to write in the future. He also had the unique request to avoid color, keeping his brand palette monochromatic.

The Solution: A minimalist yet striking font was chosen and customized, adding energy and motion via “slicing” ascenders and descenders. The core of the color palette remained monochromatic on the client’s request, but some secondary accent colors were incorporated for maximum brand flexibility (think: website links).

After completing his identity package, Adam wanted to update the promotional slider on his website’s homepage to mirror his new brand. He wanted to promote both himself, the author, as well as his individual titles and series.

The Solution: Seven new promotional graphics were designed, two showcasing the praise and accolades Adam has amassed during his career. The other five graphics promoted his standalone novels and series, with each of these themed to match the look and feel of the book covers.

When it came time to promote his newest release, Adam hired EBC to design promotional bookmarks for They Both Die at the End. The bookmarks needed to be branded to the book itself, not his author identity, and he requested that they showcase the exclusive editions releasing at various retailers, plus all the special features included within each exclusive edition.

The Solution: Incorporating lots of information on a small canvas is always a challenge, but smart use of spacing and labels allowed EBC to accomplish all of Adam’s requests regarding the exclusive editions. Meanwhile, the front side of the bookmark focused on his upcoming release, featuring the novel’s artwork, release date, and general marketing info.
